Depicting typical Ancient Egyptian characters and artifacts, the sides are divided between chess pieces ornately painted in gold and those painted in black and gold.

The kings are easy to recognize. Royal figures often wore elaborate headdresses, the color and size of which were defined by the significance of the event. The blue and gold headdress, which we tend to associate with a pharaoh, is called a Nemes. A pharaoh is also recognized by his crossed arms, holding a crook in one hand and a flail in the other. Also easily recognized by her headdress is the beautiful queen, sitting very regally in a "palms on knees" pose.
