These Abingdon chess pieces have a high-quality finish and attention to detail that exceed expectations for a modestly priced chess set.

Crafted from solid boxwood, each piece has been expertly turned, with the knights hand-carved by the most experienced craftsmen.

To create the look of real ebony without the associated price tag, the boxwood pieces undergo a chemical ebonizing process. They are then weighted for perfect balance, and all bases are felted with billiard cloth to protect any playing surface.

To accommodate them, we matched the chess pieces with an equally superb mahogany chess board from Spain. Because the king is 3.5 inches, we selected the chess board from this particular range, and with 1.9-inch squares the pieces sit perfectly. This chess board design is a classic, and with its clean and simple lines you will have seen similar boards at famous tournaments.
