Outstanding quality Italian-made briarwood and elm veneer chess board. Finished in a quality lacquer, the wood grain and knotting of the briarwood look simply sublime and have a rich depth of tone and patterning that will impress. The inlaid veneer squares are bordered with a thin veneer of ebony that separates the playing area from the edge.

The underside of the chess board features a lacquered wooden veneer and has felting pads to protect surfaces beneath. The coloring and tone of this board are best suited to black chess pieces, either ebonized boxwood or solid ebony, with a king height of 3 inches.
